Martin E. Auerbach, CPA

Marty began his career as a tax specialist with Coopers & Lybrand in 1973.  After three years, he left public accounting to serve as tax counsel to a large, closely-held trucking and investment company.   In 1977, he re-entered public accounting with a National Accounting firm.  Six years later, he joined a local Dallas CPA firm as a tax manager and within 15 months was promoted to partner.  In 1993 he became co-founder and President of Auerbach Albert & Gold, L.C.

Marty earned a B.A. in Political Science from the University of California, Irvine in 1970.  He received his J.D. from the UCLA School of Law in 1973.  He has memberships with the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants, the Dallas Chapter - TSCPA and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.  He is also a member of the American Bar Association and the Dallas Estate Planning Council.

Among his clients are entrepreneurs, professionals, partnerships, trusts, estates, and real estate investments.  His emphasis also includes farming and ranching, employee stock options, oil and gas and stock transactions.

Marty is happily married to his wife Cheri and together they have four children.  He is very involved in his community and has served on the board of several non-profit organizations.


Jim

James Y. Albert, CPA

Jim started his career with a large downtown bank in Dallas,TX.  He later joined Alexander Grant (now Grant Thornton) where he progressed to an audit senior level.  After approximately 3 years, he joined a local CPA firm where he became a partner in 1987.  Jim continued as a partner there until 1993, at which time he became one of the founding partners of Auerbach Albert & Gold, LC.  

Jim graduated with a BBA degree in accounting in 1978 from the University of Texas at Austin.  He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Within the firm’s practice, Jim spends the majority of his time providing tax and accounting services to many small to medium-sized businesses, business owners, trusts, estates and numerous individual clients.  The tax services primarily include tax planning, tax projections and tax return preparation.  Jim is also responsible for the firm’s audit practice which provides audit and attest services to clients in a variety of industries such as manufacturing, not-for-profit organizations, franchisors and retirement plans.

Jim has been married for 30 years and has 3 children.  Outside of the office, Jim is involved with several nonprofit organizations and enjoys watching sports along with playing basketball and tennis.


Matt

Matthew J. Gold, CPA

Matt graduated with a BBA in accounting from the University of Texas – Austin in 1980.  He immediately began his career with Arthur Andersen & Co (“AA”) in Dallas, TX.  In 1985 he joined a local CPA firm where he was promoted to partner in 1987.  In 1993, he joined with two of his colleagues to become one of the founding partners of Auerbach Albert & Gold, L.C.

He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Matt has over 30 years of experience providing tax services to individuals, corporations and partnerships, as well as trusts and estates.  He assists clients in a variety of industries and specialties including medical professionals and their practices, real estate and investments.    

Matt has been married for over 30 years and has 3 children.  He enjoys running, reading, and travelling with his family.

Frankie L. Burns, CPA

Frank graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the Stephen F. Austin University in 1988.  He began his career in the banking industry and quickly moved into the public accounting industry in 1989.  He started as a staff accountant working in 2 local CPA firms.  In November of 1993 he was asked to join the new firm as one of the first employees of Auerbach  Albert & Gold, L.C. Over the next several years Frank continued to build his practice and joined AA&G as partner in January 2000.

He is a member of both the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Frank’s practice includes providing tax, accounting and business planning services to a wide variety of clients.  The tax services include tax return preparation, tax planning and projections as well as IRS representation.  Accounting services include bookkeeping and related services.  Frank also assists clients in the design and implementation of computerized accounting solutions tailored to their business.  Business planning services include new business start-up consulting, purchases and sales of existing businesses and general consulting services.  His clients include individuals and business entities in a variety of industries including real estate, professional services, retail, construction and manufacturing.

Frank has been married for over 20 years and has 2 children.  When not spending time with his family, he is an active outdoorsman including fishing, hunting and coaching baseball.  Frank is also actively involved with First Baptist Church of Forney where he has served as a Sunday school teacher for over 10 years.


Laurie Shwiff, CPA
TAX MANAGER

Prior to joining Auerbach Albert & Gold, L.C., Laurie had audit and tax experience with a national CPA firm and a large local Dallas CPA firm.  She has experience in all areas of tax compliance and planning with an emphasis on partnerships, individuals and estate and gift tax.

Laurie is a Dallas native.  She earned a BBA in accounting from the University of Texas at Austin and JD from Southern Methodist University School of Law.  She is a CPA and attorney, both licensed in Texas.

She serves as Treasurer of WRJ-Temple Emanu-El and the Dallas Chapter of AMC Cancer Research and enjoys going to the theater and travelling.

Colleen Mejia

Colleen joined AAG in 1999 and became the accounting manager in 2008.  She has over 15 years experience in bookkeeping with an emphasis in real estate and medical practices.  She provides a variety of accounting services including Quickbooks support and training, payroll and sales tax, and consults with clients to provide internal control reviews.

Colleen graduated from the University of North Texas in 1997.  She has been a certified Quickbooks Advisor since 2005.

Colleen enjoys travelling, cooking and spending time with her husband, Brandon and their dog, Charlie.

Penny Powell
OFFICE MANAGER

Penny joined the firm in January of 2007 and was promoted to Office Manager in July of 2010.  She is an essential member of our management team providing various administrative duties within the firm including managing the administrative support staff, accounts payable, efiling, etc.  She is the firm project deadline manager and is responsible for the Human Resource department.

Penny and her husband have been married for two years and reside in Richardson, TX.  She enjoys bowling and is an avid animal lover.  She is a member of the Richardson VFW and the Plano/Richardson Elks Lodge.  She is an active member of her community and serves as a volunteer with various organizations.
